I love to sing! It fills my heart and soul and makes the days worries take a back seat. I grew up listening to my mom sing, in the choir, in her quartets, around the house, in the car you name it, she sang there! I developed an ear for harmony by mom's coaching in the car and have loved to harmonize ever since. I don't remember much about where I grew up (Absecon, NJ), but I DO remember the snow and cold and my folks saying "Let's go to Florida!!!". So, at the age of 4, we moved to Pinellas County and have returned there after all my jaunts: to college (Vanderbilt, BCE), Charleston SC (first job out of college as a Naval Architect) and Atlanta (AFRCE, Pre-school teacher, part-time civil engineer with Parsons). In between Charleston and Atlanta I got married and lived in Clearwater while working at McDill AFB. After many, many, many fine years of marriage (23), John (an RN) and I have three lovely teenagers and keep extremely busy. Oh, back to singing, I LOVE IT!!! (did I say that already?) I've sung in every church's choir I've attended and taught the Children's choir in three of them. What a marvelous blessing to see children get excited about music and singing and using the God given talents they have. Barbershop style was also introduced by my mom and she encouraged me to go to Chorus rehearsal when I was 20. Of course I was hooked and sang until my job took me to Atlanta. I didn't reinsert myself into barbershop again until our children were in school and we had moved back to Dunedin. The Sweet Adeline's have taught me stage presence, excellent vocal and musical skills and given me friends that share the same passion, SINGING!! |
